BMW Z4 V/s Porsche Cayman - A Comparison
BMW and Porsche - Two of the biggest giants in the industry of automobiles have come out with their models The BMW Z4 and the Porsche Cayman at the same time. By doing so, both these models are being regarded as competitors in the market. There is no better thing to do than to be able to compare both these mean machines against each other. Let's go step by step.
In a bid to expand its customer base, Porsche has been looking to make a vehicle that would suit the needs of the general public. Not everyone prefers a 911 turbo and at the same time, a coupe does not interest many. As a result, the company ended up taking the mid engine layout of 911 and the structure of Boxster to launch Cayman which is considered to be an upgrade of Boxster. It boasts of better balance and the open top addition only increases its value in the market. Fortunately for Porsche, this is exactly what the market wanted.
On the other hand, BMWs Z3 which was launched a couple of years back had proven to be a major disaster. They wanted to remedy the same and Z4 came as a replacement. It has a sportier look and the company was able to stop it from looking tall like the Z3. The intention of BMW was to launch a cool sports car only for the United States market.

Coming to the technicalities, Porsche Cayman comes with a 2.7L engine. However, because all engines are flat size engines, Porsche has the option of making engines of various capacities ranging from 2.7l to 3.8L. BMW Z4 comes with a 3L engine and has the potential to compete with the other.
Z4 is a sportier model of the two and can reach 0 - 60 in 5.5 seconds while Cayman does the same in 5.3 which is a fraction better. Nevertheless, if the performance is taken into consideration, Z4 successfully beats Cayman by a good margin.
When choosing between the two of these, it decision would vary from one individual to another. No doubt Z4 is a huge improvement to Z3 but it does have areas which can be huge turn offs. Cayman comes with the traditional design i.e. built in spoiler, long tail and the usual Porsche Lines which have always been very appealing. There is not much difference in terms of performance as both have powerful engines which have the capability to run at high speeds; not much difference in the gearbox either.
A confident driver would prefer the Cayman but those who are unsure when behind the wheels should opt for Z4 instead as it offers better balance and handling. In the end, there is little difference between the two but it is these little differences that decide the fate of the car in the market. Be assured that both are wonderful to drive and truly fit into the category of being listed as one of the coolest sports cars to drive around in.
